Objective
This project examines the implications of Advanced Digital Technologies (ADTs)—such as resume-screening algorithms, virtual interviews and platform-based hiring—for immigrant labour market integration.
It shifts the focus from individual-level outcomes to organizational practices, investigating how Canadian employers adopt ADTs in recruitment, onboarding, and retention. The study considers both potential benefits, like efficiency and fairness, and risks of reinforcing inequities.
The project also explores how immigrants experience and navigate digitally mediated hiring, and the role of digital support tools in job search and skill recognition. Findings will generate evidence to inform more equitable labour market practices.
Research Question(s)
- How are Canadian employers using ADTs in recruitment, selection, and talent development processes?
- How do employers evaluate the effectiveness and equity implications of using ADTs in hiring and retaining immigrants?
- What are immigrant jobseekers’ experiences and strategies in navigating ADT-mediated hiring systems?
- In what ways do digital hiring tools reinforce or disrupt systemic barriers to immigrant labour market integration?
- How do digital career support interventions influence newcomer employment outcomes?
Methodology
The project uses a mixed-methods approach, including interviews, surveys, thematic analysis, and statistical modelling.
