History's Horizon
Project Description
History's Horizon is a large-scale public artwork by Nicole Bachan, created for the City of Pickering's Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre. Inspired by Pickering's natural landscape, local wildlife, and historic architecture, the piece uses layered wood construction to create a contemporary interpretation of the city's evolving identity. The project showcases the Design Technology Lab's digital fabrication capabilities through the integration of CNC routing, laser cutting, and traditional finishing techniques.

Fabrication
The artwork was digitally separated into multiple layers before being fabricated using the Design Technology Lab's CNC router and laser cutter. Following fabrication, each component was individually stained, painted, and finished before being assembled into a four-panel installation and mounted using a concealed French cleat system.
