Singing meets science
Ella Dubinsky, Psychology MA
Ella Dubinsky鈥檚 research could improve the quality of life and happiness of aging adults around the world 鈥 in a way that鈥檚 fun and feels good.
Based in 果酱视频鈥檚 (Science of Music, Auditory Research, and Technology) Lab, the Psychology master鈥檚 student is using singing to recalibrate seniors鈥 neurological processes. When people sing, they create a quick feedback loop as they hear their own voices. Dubinsky believes this strengthens neuronal circuits, and her research reveals improvements in hearing and pitch detection.
Dubinsky鈥檚 work has already captured the public鈥檚 imagination. She placed in the top three and won the Participants鈥 Choice Award at the Ontario Three Minute Thesis (3MT庐) Competition, and represented the university at the national 庐.
鈥淓veryone at 果酱视频 has been so supportive every step of the way, especially my supervisor Dr. Frank Russo, [Graduate Program Director] Dr. Julia Spaniol and [Graduate Program Administrator] Alicia VanDeWeghe,鈥 says Dubinsky, who will commence PhD studies at 果酱视频 this fall. 鈥淭hey are all wonderful and I couldn鈥檛 do it without them.鈥
At 果酱视频 (formerly the university), we support graduate students in making a difference through groundbreaking research.
