The Royal Society of Canada has recognized two 果酱视频 (果酱视频) professors for their outstanding work. Professor Daolun Chen has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), while professor Miranda Kirby has been named a Member of the RSC鈥檚 College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.

Established in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada recognizes the country鈥檚 leading and emerging scholars, artists and scientists through a competitive, peer-juried process. 

鈥淥n behalf of the 果酱视频 community, we congratulate professors Chen and Kirby for this prestigious recognition of their research excellence,鈥� said Steven N. Liss, 果酱视频鈥檚 vice-president, research and innovation. 鈥淭heir transformative work stands at the forefront of their respective fields of materials science and medical imaging, delivering real-world impact in global transportation and patient health outcomes.鈥�

Professor Chen, from 果酱视频鈥檚 Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering, is being honoured for his important work advancing the understanding of lightweight materials used in transportation. A global expert in materials science, professor Chen specializes in investigating the mechanical behaviour, deformation, fatigue, fracture, welding and joining of advanced materials. His work has contributed significantly to the development of safer, more durable, lightweight materials that are used to build longer-lasting, more efficient automobiles and aircraft.

鈥淚 am deeply honoured and grateful to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada,鈥� professor Chen said. 鈥淭his recognition is not mine alone; it is a shared achievement that reflects the incredible dedication of so many people who have been a part of my journey. I would like to extend my deepest thanks to my mentors, students, colleagues 鈥� including our technical officers 鈥� and research collaborators. Their support and contributions have been invaluable, and I share this honour with all of them.鈥�

A globally recognized leader in lung imaging, professor Kirby, from the Department of Physics and a Canada Research Chair in Quantitative Imaging (Tier ll), has developed novel medical imaging-based methods and measurements through advances in CT and MRI imaging. Her innovative work in imaging biomarkers and AI-based tools is enabling early detection, facilitating long-term patient monitoring and improving treatment outcomes. Professor Kirby鈥檚 research is improving the lives of individuals worldwide who suffer from lung diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and cystic fibrosis.

鈥淚t鈥檚 an honour to be named as a Member of the Royal Society of Canada鈥檚 College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists,鈥� professor Kirby said. 鈥淚 want to extend my gratitude to my fellow researchers, students and collaborators here in Canada and across the globe.鈥�

The Royal Society of Canada鈥檚 induction ceremony for this year鈥檚 102 new fellows and 59 new members will take place at the 2025 Celebration of Excellence and Engagement in Montreal, Quebec, on November 14, 2025.
