Congratulations to MA student Hal Jones on winning a university-wide TA/GA award for their exemplary work as a grader and tutorial leader in SSH105. In support of Hal's nomination, one undergraduate student wrote: "I can confidently attribute much of my success in this course to Hal鈥檚 dedication and support. I have never had an AA as engaging, encouraging, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. Anyone who has the chance to learn from Hal will benefit greatly, without question."
In Spring 2026, the Philosophy Department offered another 鈥渟鈥� course under the heading of PHL 803: Philosophy Engaging Communities. This course brought together philosophy majors and people recently released from correctional institutions in order to think about freedom and its social conditions. Reading texts by Frankl, Plato, Beauvoir, Malcolm X, and texts on Buddhism and the Crow People, students brought their own experiences of freedom and confinement into the conversation, and thereby developed new lenses through which to understand both the texts and their own situations. The course was led by Prof. Kym Maclaren.
Congratulations to Prof. , who has been awarded a writing fellowship in Germany (Kassel University), as part of a 碍盲迟别-贬补尘产耻谤驳别谤-碍别濒濒辞驳&苍产蝉辫;grant supporting a . Prof. Mulaj will be on research leave for academic year 2026-2027 while she takes up this fellowship.

Congratulations to Professors , Paula Schwebel, and on winning Curriculum Development Grants from the Faculty of Arts this cycle!

- Mulaj and Schwebel's grant will support the development of a proposal to create a new course (PHL XXX: Critical Perspectives on War, Genocide and Mass Violence), and to modify an existing course (PHL 585: Violent Conflict and Reconciliation), so that it focuses on reconciliation and repair after violent conflict.

- Falbo's grant will support adding Indigenous epistemological perspectives to PHL 550: Knowledge, Truth and Belief.

The hosted an event entitled The Global Rise of Anti-Gender Ideology on Wednesday, December 10, 12:00-2:00 PM. This virtual panel brought together (Open University), (LSE), and (SOAS), to discuss the global rise of the anti-gender movement, with a particular focus on the UK and Europe more generally.

Prof. co-organized a conference, entitled "Other Epistemic Achievements: Global Perspectives", which took place from May 2-4, 2025.
